The Protégé Project

I’m not here to teach you how to write a book. I’m not here to coach you through your manuscript. Instead, I will diagnose how you write, decoding your specific stylistic DNA to build a custom blueprint for your development.

This custom manual isn't a generic template. It’s a highly specific,

hand-curated blueprint containing the exact books you need to read,

short stories to forensically examine, and craft essays to study.

But I go deeper than that. I'll build custom syntax breakdowns to map your rhythmic defaults, author studies to reverse-engineer the writers who inspire you, and precision craft exercises designed to break through your specific pacing blocks. We will even study paintings and visual art to train your eye in translating raw atmosphere, light, and form onto the page. From structural scene deconstructions to micro-tuning your cadence, you will get the exact raw materials you need to transform prose into a distinct, living voice.

The Concept

Most writing advice is designed for the masses. It’s all broad rules, generic templates, and structures built for crowds. When you’re trying to solve a precise problem—whether that’s learning how to write sharper dialogue,

master architectural pacing, or unlock a character’s interiority—finding the one book or course that perfectly fits your exact stylistic needs is near impossible.

But compelling fiction happens at the sentence level and is unique to the mind that writes it. Instead of forcing you into a pre-packaged program, I dissect your writing style and extract a tailored workbook designed explicitly for your growth.

This custom manual contains the exact books you need to read, short stories to forensically examine, specific craft articles to study, and precision exercises to execute.

Think about it this way: long before a painter develops a signature style, they sit in museums before the canvases of the old masters. They replicate every brushstroke, color mix, and trick of the light. Writers learn the mechanics of voice in the exact same way.

You will learn how a sentence builds tension, how a word shift alters atmosphere, and how a cadence hooks a reader.

Ready to start?

The entry point for a diagnostic workbook starts at $199. Once you submit your completed dossier, I’ll review your writing sample to determine if you’re a candidate and if we’re a good structural fit. We will then meet via zoom to see if we have a meeting of the minds.

That said, I am deeply aware of the massive financial barriers that so often gatekeep high-level creative mentorship. I don't want cost to stand between a serious artist and their growth. If the investment is a hurdle, reach out anyway—we will find a way to create a more accessible, stripped-back alternative that targets your exact, specific needs as a writer without compromising the integrity of the work.

If you're ready to uncover the architecture of your writing, let’s talk. Drop me a message here to request details.

To give you a taste:

Gillian Flynn’s (example) writing works by quietly making you anxious. She pairs long, rambling sentences with sudden, blunt statements to mimic the feeling of ................

"I take baths. Not showers. I can't handle the spray, it gets my skin buzzing, like someone's turned on a switch. So I wadded a flimsy motel towel over the grate in the shower floor, aimed the nozzle at the wall, and sat in the three inches of water that pooled in the stall. Someone else's pubic hair floated by............"

  • The Panic Cadence (Long vs. Short): Look at how she controls your breathing. She starts with four words: "I take baths. Not showers." It is blunt, flat, and immediately makes you wonder.............

  • The Discrepancy of Detail: Bathing is supposed to be clean, soothing, and private. Flynn immediately corrupts this comforting ritual by...............

  • The Slow Drip of Sensory Misery: Flynn doesn't just write, "The motel room was gross, so I got dressed and had a drink." She forces us to experience ........

Your Turn: The "Unclean Comfort" Exercise

To capture this style, you need to practice corrupting a mundane, comforting routine using her specific sentence rhythm.  Pick one of these three.................

The absolute best story that practically invented the modern "creeping dread" style Flynn uses is:

  • Title: ..............

  • Author:  ...................
